General description Doll in the typical traditional costume worn by older adult men in the Black Forest

Dimensions 15 cm x 8.5 cm x 5cm

Date when acquired August 2015

Original Date Unknown

Source Flea market in Hannover, Germany. He was on sale with eight female dolls all with the typical Black Forest hat with red pompoms (Bollenhut). Now he is a companion to my three Black Forest ladies.

Plastic with movable eyes, arms and legs. The elastic band to his arms was missing, so I had to put a new one in. His hair is formed in the plastic and is mainly pink with some faded brown colour washed over the base.

He is wearing black felt knee breeches with a red felt waistcoat. Interestingly, the waistcoat is closed at the top but open from around the middle of the chest so that the white “shirt” can be seen. A little white collar is poking out of the waistcoat at the top. The waistcoat has four gold buttons. His long-sleeved coat is also of black felt and has a black felt lining that can be seen on the lapels and around the edges of the coat. Each lapel is held back by a gold button.

He is wearing the typical wide-brimmed “bowler” hat, though the stiffened brim is rather floppy and misshapen nowadays.
