General description Woman in a dirndl typical of southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland with an impressive gold hat (Goldhaube)

Dimensions 17.5 cm x 11 cm x 7 cm

Date when acquired 2014

Present from Anne-Marie. It was given to her by her parents when she was a child. Wachau was on the plastic box but this headdress is not like the Wachau gold hats and there may have been a mix up.

Original Date 1960s

Source Unknown

Plastic with movable eyes and arms. Her legs are rigid. Her yellowy blonde hair is drawn back form a central parting into two side plaits that are tied with gold thread.

She is wearing a long-sleeved dirndl dress in blue silk brocade, pattern with flower sprigs (also in blue). Her apron is of the same material but in pink. Around the square neckline of her bodice is white lace. A white scarf is tucked inside the bodice.

She is wearing long white ribbed stockings and black plastic shoes.

Her headdress is a golden hat made of gold lamé (hollow fibre) lace (Hohlspitzentechnik), which is drawn up in a steep halo. The back of the halo is covered with yellowish mesh and a small black bow with long ribbons (down past her hips) is attached to this roughly in the middle of the back of her head.

A gold-like metal brooch is fixed to the lace of her neckline.

Background information

I have looked and looked but I have not found this style of gold hat. Similar ones have lace around the front or a very large bow at the nape of the neck. Again, I need to find a good library.
